THE HOUSE MUSEUM: WHERE HOUSE AND ART MUSEUM CONVERGE - Dr Georgina Walker

The private house museum as we know it in the twenty-first century has evolved over time and no longer conforms to a specific design or type. Each collector individually and consciously determines aspects of architectural and design aesthetics, collecting and displaying alongside personal cultural ambitions.

Join Dr Georgina Walker from University of Melbourne, whose doctoral thesis The Private Museum: Contemporary Art Collecting and Philanthropy, has made her a recognised authority on house museums around the world.

In this JAHM Session, Georgina explores the development of the house museum and its transition from private to public.

REFLECTIONS ON ABSTRACTION - Prof David Jamieson, Dr Nathan Wolski and Dr Justin Andrews

A physicist, a philosopher and a painter walk into a bar. What happens next? Maybe nothing – after all it’s just an abstract notion. But when Prof. David Jamieson, Professor of Physics, University of Melbourne, Dr Nathan Wolski from Monash University and Dr Justin Andrews a contemporary artist get together in our gallery, they will discuss what abstraction means to them in a JAHM Session that tackles some big ideas.

Places limited and booking by registration only.
