OPEN HOUSE MELBOURNE

For the first time JAHM is participating in Open House Melbourne Weekend, Saturday 29 + Sunday 30 July 2023.

Open House Melbourne is an independent organization that fosters public appreciation of architecture and public engagement in the future of our cities.

This years theme is Collective City - How will we reinvent, repurpose and adapt our city to live better together. One way will be for buildings to more multi-purpose, to get more use out of them. One example is what happened to our homes during Covid, where they became not only our residence but also our workplace, school for our children and entertainment venues. Schools for example are expanding their teaching function to become community hubs and sport centres out of school hours.

JAHM is both a home and an art museum, combining both a private and public function. Charles Justin will conduct architectural tours of the building, including both the gallery and residential spaces and how JAHM's public and private roles work together. The distinction between public, private and house museums will be examined and an insight into how the architect becomes the client will be shared.
